What counts as low MOQ in sock manufacturing
MOQ is the minimum order quantity a factory will accept per product. In sock manufacturing the standard is volume: most factories set minimums at 500 to 1,000 pairs per design, often per color on top of that. A low MOQ sock manufacturer is one that accepts genuinely small runs. At Sokko the floor is 50 pairs per design and size, which sits at the low end of what exists anywhere for real production.
The number only means something alongside the production method. Services advertising 20 pairs or even single pairs are almost always printing on ready-made blank socks: fast and cheap, but the design sits on the surface of a generic stock sock. Our 50 pair minimum applies to true custom knitting, where the pattern, colors, and construction are knit into the fabric on the same machines that run our volume orders. Volume factory vs a boutique floor
Both models are legitimate; they serve different orders. The honest comparison looks like this:

If your order is ten thousand pairs of one design, a volume factory is the right tool for the job. If your order is a few designs at a few hundred pairs, the math and the attention run the other way. Why our minimum is 50 pairs
A minimum order exists because every new design costs setup time before the first sellable pair: machine programming, yarn and color preparation, sampling, and quality tooling. Volume factories recover that cost across thousands of pairs, so their minimums are set in the thousands. We keep the floor at 50 because the factory is built for it: 26 machines on our own floor in Istanbul, scheduled around many small programs rather than a few giant ones, with three generations of textile work behind the planning. Small batch production is not an exception we tolerate; it is the core program.
The math of a small batch first run
The counting is per SKU. 50 pairs covers one design in one size; one design in three sizes is 150 pairs; two designs in three sizes is 300. Color counts as a separate design from a production standpoint, since every colorway carries its own matching and setup. A realistic first range for a new sock brand, two designs in three sizes, is therefore a 300 pair commitment: small enough to test sell-through honestly, large enough to photograph, seed, and stock. From a 50 pair test to a repeatable line
Every run, whatever its size, is documented in a tech pack: yarn composition, colorways, construction, sizes, branding, and packaging. That document is what makes a small batch worth running, because the test and the scale-up are the same product. When the first run sells through, the reorder repeats it exactly, at 500 or 5,000 pairs, with 2.5M pairs of annual capacity above it.
